Otters' Favorite Foods (K-2, Age 5-8)


Learn about which foods sea otters like to eat, their habitat and about simple food chains. While at the aquarium, students observe some of these interesting invertebrates then compare their body parts and behaviors. These educational activities are designed to promote inquiry-based learning, focused observations and group investigations.

What Do Otters Eat?
Pre-Visit
Students are introduced to some of the sea otters' favorite foods as they read "Pup's Supper." In What Do Otters Eat, they learn more about the animals that otters eat. Then students analyze their own favorite foods and build simple Food Chains.

Students use Hungry Otters Graph and Favorite Foods Venn Diagrams to compile their observations. They build a Kelp Forest Food Chain, and then try to discover why there are no otters in the Kelp Forest exhibit in Solve This Mystery.
